Nketia@90 Choral Concert
A LIVING LEGEND WORTH CELEBRATING
The Nketia@90 Choral Concert slated for Saturday, 25th June 2011 at the National Theatre (at 7pm prompt) is being held in honour of Professor Emeritus Joseph Hanson Kwabena Nketia, a renowned Africanist, teacher, ethno-musicologist, composer, poet, linguist and sociologist.
The Choral Concert seeks to bring Ghanaians and the rest of the world together under one roof to celebrate the life and works of this great hero. It will also serve as a source of inspiration and a reminder of the heights we could reach with a lot more belief in ourselves as ghanaians.


Brief Profile
Professor Emeritus Joseph Hanson Kwabena Nketia is a passionate lover of African music with several music records such as ‘Adanse Kronkron’, ‘Monkafo No’, ‘Yiadom Heneba’, ‘Obarima Nifahene’ and so many more to his credit. He has also written extensively for a variety of combinations of local and modern African instruments as well as other Western orchestral instruments.
He is a former Director of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon and has also lectured at several top universities in the US, Europe, Africa and Asia including Harvard University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Michigan, Stanford University, Indiana University, City University of London and the China Conservatory of Music.
Professor J.H. Nketia is currently the Director of the International Centre for African Music and Dance (ICAMD), University of Ghana, Legon. He is also currently running the Nketia Music Foundation, which was set up to promote the conservation and development of Ghana’s Creative Legacy.
Popularly known by many as the ‘Moses of African Music’, Professor J.H. Nketia has won several national and international awards with several African-inspired books to his credit.
